Jim has been in the photographic industry for over 30 years working in multiple capacities.
After earning his degree in Photographic Production Technology at SIU Jim started working at Winnona School of Photography as an assistant to visiting instructors and running the lab. Jim then opened up his own custom printing service specializing in hand printing images for local professional studios.
During this time he also worked as a freelance photographer for multiple studios helping out with their workload. Always wanting to keep up with the newest technology, Jim started using Photoshop in 1992 after reading an article about it in a trade magazine. Since this was well before any classes, books or online tutorials Jim had to learn from scratch what the tools did and how to use them. In 2003 he took the leap and opened his own professional lab and studio service in Crystal Lake Illinois specializing in commercial work as well as portraiture and artistic pieces.
Jim holds the degrees of Master of Photography, Photographic Craftsman Master Artist and Certified Professional Photographer through the Professional Photographers of America accreditation program and has won many national awards for his work. An avid believer in education, he teaches workshops at the studio as well as being a nationally known speaker having taught at state conventions for professional photographers. Jim is also an adjunct professor of photography at Harper College in Palatine Illinois.
